Karuṇā (Sanskrit: करुणा) is generally translated as compassion or mercy and sometimes as self-compassion or spiritual longing (see Bodhichitta). It is a significant spiritual concept in the Indic religions of especially Buddhism, but also Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism.
