- January 2, 1975 Gates and Allen Name “Micro-Soft” - Microsoft founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen write a letter to MITS, the Albuquerque, New Mexico, company that manufactured the Altair computer, offering a version of BASIC for MITS's “Altair 8800” computer.
